site overview

Stanwell Power Station is a coal fired power station with four generating units and a total output capacity of 1460MW. The station receives its coal from various coal mines throughout the Bowen Basin.

Coal is delivered to the Power Station by rail, and unloaded and stockpiled onsite. From these activities and the general operating procedures of the Power Station, water run-off is captured and stored for use in the power station’s operations. Over time the sediment has built up in the storage dams and has reduced storage capacity; requiring corrective action to screen the silt out of the run-off prior to entering the storage dams.

scope of works

The provision of all labour, materials, plant and equipment to construct the three concrete interceptor pits onsite. This included the design and management of temporary works to ensure the safe construction of the pits; whilst ensuring there were no disruptions to the operation of the Power Station.

key outcomes

Mitcon Project successfully delivered the works on budget and well within the program timeframe. The team of steel fixers, formwork carpenters and concreters worked together to create a strong culture and this was evident in the quality of the finished product.

Mitcon ensured to engage local businesses where possible, and this included the supply and fabrication of steel infrastructure and furniture.
