The Shoalwater Bay Training Area (SWBTA) is one of Australia’s key Defence training areas, and its expansion will not only deepen our Defence relationship with Singapore but also support economic growth in the region. By the end of 2026, 14,000 Singaporean personnel will spend 18 weeks annually in the Shoalwater Bay Training Area.
The initiative provides the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) with increased access to Australian military training areas and is an important way of strengthening Australia’s bilateral Defence relationship with Singapore.
The project involves constructing new, and upgrading existing, facilities and infrastructure at SWBTA to support training activities of the SAF.
scope of works
Mitcon Projects are delivering the full FRP package across 30 buildings - this includes the provision of all labour, plant, equipment, and materials to complete the works. Work activities include detailed excavation, steelfixing, formwork and concrete place and finish for footings, ground slabs and suspended slabs.
Mitcon Projects extensive experience in both concrete structures and Defence works, combined with their local business position, have played a pivotal role in assisting Laing O’Rourke to deliver this scope of works for Defence.
Close to 4000m3 of concrete will be placed during the course of the project in this environmentally sensitive area and all without interruption to ongoing live Defence training exercises.
